Ambassador of Bosnia and Herzegovina to the Kingdom of the Netherlands Miranda Sidran-Kamisalic received a visit from Jan van Zomeren, the mayor of the city of Heumen, on September 9th, 2009 during the latter’s official visit to The Hague.

They discussed projects of cooperation between the municipalities of Winschoten, Heumen, and Srebrenica, which signed a long-term cooperation agreement in 2006. The projects include carrying out professional development courses for civil servants in Srebrenica Municipality. Cooperation also extends to various fields including youth policy, water supply systems, and fire brigades. As part of the cooperation between the Potocari and Westerbork Memorial Centers, an education center for project implementation has been established. Among many activities is the organization of conferences, issuing of publications, and assistance in organizing debates on events which took place during the war. In addition, a delegation of the “Women of Srebrenica” NGO visited the Westerbork Memorial Center in 2002. Return visits have also been carried out.

Ambassador Sidran-Kamisalic expressed appreciation to Mayor Van Zomernen for participating in activities and promoting the strengthening of municipality cooperation. She stated that the competent authorities in Bosnia and Herzegovina fully support continued cooperation at the local level in all its forms as well as its strengthening.

Ambassador Sidran-Kamisalic also gladly accepted an invitation to pay an official visit to the municipalities and cities of Heumen and Winschoten in the Dutch province of Gelderland, areas which have shown significant interest in B&H’s business and tourism potentials.
