Charge d’Affaires of the Embassy of Bosnia and Herzegovina in Canada Mithat Pasic Meets with Director General of the Division for Central, Eastern and Southern Europe in the DFAIT of Canada Robert Hage

On August 11th, 2009, Charge d’Affaires of the BiH Embassy in Canada Mithat Pasic met with Director General of the Division for Central, Eastern and Southern Europe in the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade of Canada (DFAIT) Robert Hage.

Charge d’Affaires a.i. Pasic and Director General Hage exchanged their views on the current situation in BiH, as well as on the attitude of the Canadian Government towards significant issues regarding relations between the two countries.

Director General Hage, who actively participates in the activities of the Peace Implementation Council (PIC) in BiH, reiterated that the Canadian Government advocates transforming the OHR into the EU Representative Office in BiH as soon as possible, and emphasized the necessity for greater involvement of BiH side in creating conditions for this transformation. He also reaffirmed that Canada will continue supporting BiH’s efforts to become a full-fledged member of NATO. On this occasion, Director General Hage informed Charge d’Affaires a.i. Pasic about Canada’s candidature for a non-permanent seat at the UN Security Council for the 2011-2012 term.

During the meeting, other topics were also discussed, particularly activities regarding BiH’s accession to the WTO and signing a bilateral agreement on social insurance. Director Hage expressed willingness to assist BiH’s Embassy in Ottawa to intensify activities regarding these issues.
