Ambassador of Bosnia and Herzegovina to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland Jadranka Negodic Presents Credentials to IMO Secretary-General Efthimios Mitropoulos
On October 21st, 2009, Ambassador of Bosnia and Herzegovina to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland Jadranka Negodic presented credentials to the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Secretary-General Efthimios Mitropoulos, being appointed as permanent representative of BiH to the aforementioned organization.
Secretary-General Mitropoulos was interested in the current political situation in BiH, progress being made regarding the path to the EU membership and, in particular, BiH`s expectations from membership in the IMO, actually to which extent the IMO can assist BiH in terms of preparation and more efficient participation of representatives from our country`s competent ministries in the activities of this institution. He expressed readiness for extending professional assistance with the aim of drafting laws in the area of maritime affairs and the Law of the Sea and their harmonizing with the appropriate international conventions as well as training of experts working in this field.
They discussed possibilities for educating BiH representatives at the International Maritime Law Institute in Malta (postgraduate program) which announces vacancy for admission of candidates from south-east Europe countries every year.
On this occasion Secretary-General Mitropoulos informed Ambassador Negodic about activities that are being undertaken before 26th IMO General Assembly Sesssion, starting on October 23rd, 2009, and said he expects that the responsible Minister from BiH will attend it.
