Street in the Republic of Italy Named After BiH Citizen

A street in Jesolo, Italy was named after Dragan Cigan, a citizen of Bosnia and Herzegovina, during a formal ceremony held on July 26th, 2009.

Dragan Cigan lost his life in July of 2007 while attempting to save two Italian children from Roncade who were drowning in the sea at Jesolo. The street that now bears his name is close to the beach where this tragedy occurred.

Dragan Cigan was awarded a D'oro al Valor Civile medal posthumously. The Veneto region also purchased and equipped a two-room apartment for the Cigan family in Banja Luka.

The Cigan family, the Mayor of Jesolo as well as representatives of the Veneto region and the BiH Consulate General in Milan attended the ceremony.
