Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina Sven Alkalaj Meets with Vice-Chancellor and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Germany Guido Westerwelle in Berlin
On December 11th, 2009, in Berlin, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina Sven Alkalaj met with Vice-Chancellor and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Germany Guido Westerwelle.
During the meeting, the officials exchanged views regarding situation in B&H and the region, B&H’s activities on its path to the EU and NATO as well as Germany’s support in that process.
Minister Alkalaj informed his interlocutor about the internal political circumstances in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the top foreign policy priorities. In that context, he spoke about the current developments in the process of talks regarding constitutional reforms in B&H as well as the issue of extending mandate of the foreign judges and prosecutors.
In terms of visa liberalization, he underlined that Bosnia and Herzegovina has met the criteria and that it is necessary to place our country on the White Schengen List as soon as possible. He also informed Mr. Westerwelle about the process of meeting conditions for further progress towards the EU and NATO.
B&H Diplomacy Chief informed his interlocutor about the activities that B&H is undertaking in order to prepare itself to take over the mandate of a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for the 2010-2011 term. In this context, he expressed B&H’s wish and intention to establish good cooperation with Germany within the framework of the UN activities. He also expressed appreciation to Germany for its continued support in meeting B&H’s main foreign policy priorities as well as for the engagement of the German soldiers in the SFOR.
Minister of Foreign Affairs of Germany Westerwelle expressed his country’s full support for all the efforts B&H is making in order to fulfill conditions and carry out necessary reforms on its path towards the EU and NATO. He underlined that Germany will continue supporting Bosnia and Herzegovina but also recalled that it is necessary to meet the remaining conditions.
To conclude the conversation, Minister Alkalaj invited his interlocutor to pay a return visit to B&H which should be organized next year.
