Head of the Department for Peace and Security in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina Ambassador Fuad Sabeta Holds a Lecture within the NATO Workshop “Private Military and Security Companies” in Brussels

On December 15th, 2009 in Brussels, Head of the Department for Peace and Security in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina Ambassador Fuad Sabeta participated in NATO workshop within the Euro-Atlantic Partnership Council on the topic “Private Military and Security Companies: Montreux Document and What to do Next.”

On this occasion, Ambassador Sabeta held a lecture about the experiences of our country in terms of activities of private military and security companies. Apart from presentation by Ambassador Sabeta, representatives of the Republic of France and the United States of America also addressed the gathering.

The Montreux Document, adopted in 2008, was created by a joint initiative of the Swiss Government and the International Committee of the Red Cross and it represents important legal framework for the countries that cooperate with private military and security companies during an armed conflict. The Document proved to be an important and useful guide to international organizations such as NATO, while its structure helps to identify the problems that arise with drafting contracts. Bosnia and Herzegovina joined the Montreux Document in March 2009.

The workshop was organized by NATO in cooperation with the Mission of Switzerland to NATO and Permanent Delegation of the Great Britain to NATO.
